Does curly natural hair need moisture or protein?

I’m frequently asked about the right balance of moisture and protein that's required for naturally curly, kinky or coily hair to be in an optimal state. Many women with textured hair believe moisture and protein are mutually exclusive. But they are not. In order to have healthy natural hair, your hair needs both protein and moisture. One is not more important than the other.
